Doubre Project
Background and location
The project presented is located in the north of Benin, in the department of Borgou, municipality of N’Dali. It’s a pilot project, the first for Kynarou in Benin, which will be implemented in the public school of Doubre, in partnership with the local association Itodju. In 2016, more than 5 million people lived without access to drinking water in Benin, nearly 50% of the population. This situation led the government to set up an action program to achieve universal access to drinking water by 2021. Despite the efforts made, disparities in terms of access to drinking water and hygiene remained significant in the country. In rural areas, children are still disproportionately affected by water-borne diseases such as diarrhea and cholera. The project implemented by Kynarou is in line with the government’s objectives and aims to improve the living and educational conditions of children in Doubre.
